You may have realised that buying a used BMW can make good sense. With a high standard of build quality you can find a 100 000 miler that runs as good as one that has just come out of the factory if the car has been looked after. The 7 series is no different to the other models and the big advantage of buying these cars second-hand is that the depreciation would have set in and therefore the price you pay will be far far cheaper than the showroom price tag. Now as we all know the bigger the car the harder they fall which makes the BMW 7 series a great contender. It is probably one of the best value for money cars you can buy on the used market. In 1980 when these cars were introduced to the market, they were known for their opulence, comfort and power which could really only be matched by the Mercedes S- class, Jaguar and Rolls Royce. In the year of 1987 the BMW 7 series was given a complete re-vamp, as well as the six cylinder 730i and 735i there was a 750i added to the range which boasted a V12 engine.

BMW 7 Series Changes : At that stage BMW also decided to drop the 728i and the 732i as they were a little lacklustre. In the year 1994 the 7 series went through another re- design and literally stayed the same bar some cosmetic changes right up to 2002 when the latest model was introduced. This latest version went through some controversy as people thought BMW had gone barking by making such an ugly (in some eyes) shape. So what do you get for your money for your 7 series. The 7 series offers a near silent motorway travel in complete comfort. With a well designed chassis the handling is fluid and engaging for driver and passengers alike. The body has been subtly made so it gives the illusion of not being as big as it actually is. Which model to buy. well if you opt for anything after 1994 you will find all the toys in place including leather, climate control, alloy wheels electric seats cruise control and sunroof. However if you buy one of the 728is you could find either the sunroof or climate control is missing. The transmission that is fitted to most of these cars is the five speed auto which is switch-able to help with the driving style of the person. After 1996 most cars were offered with step-tronic selectable transmission and side airbags were offered as standard too.

BMW 7 Series Engines: If you purchase a seven series after 1994 your engine choice would include the 728 six cylinder, 730i, 735i and 740i which all had eight cylinders to power the 7 series along in the form a V8. If you buy the 750i you will get yourself 12 cylinders under the bonnet. All of these cars are capable of getting to the magic 60mph in less than 10 seconds. which for a very heavy car is indeed very impressive. If you thought the BMW 728i would be a bit weedy in the foot down go department you would be surprised at how rapid this motor moves the heavy BMW 7 series. However the one to be aware of is the V8 3 litre which has not really got the torque to get this car singing and dancing like it should. The 735i gives you great bangs for your money as well as the BMW seven series 740i.

BMW 7 Series 740i: This engine also had a re-bore which took the capacity up to 4398 which made for better performance but the fuel economy down to about 21mpg. If petrol is no problem then the V12 is really the machine to buy. If you decide to purchase a model after September 1998 you will find a change in the front lights and side sills went to black with also parking distance sensors were added to the list of goodies. There was also the L version of the BMW 7 series made. This meant the long version of this model. It is an extra 4inches longer which gave more legroom in the rear.

BMW 7 Series Diesel: One of the latest BMW 730LD Se is powered by a diesel engine. You may think why a diesel. If fact this motor produces 40mpg and for a very heavy car this is a real achievement. Being a diesel is it slow? Not at all, 0-62 comes up in 7.3 seconds and a top speed of around 153mph. This car feels quite nimble even though it weighs in at around 2tons. with many mod cons such as Lane change warning system, a reverse Assist camera and state of the art communications again this car has everything you need for driver or chauffeurs alike.
